Boffins banner with tassels & tributes to female scientists

Blackburn Library workshop
Firstly A.T. Boyle – curator of the overall Colours, Community and Chemistry exhibition that our banner is part of – delivered a craft workshop at Blackburn Library. Participants made colourful woollen tassels and gave them names inspired by the shade combinations used.
Then Camilla Mørk Røstvik of No More Page Three led a craftivist workshop at the People’s History Museum.
She explored issues around the representation of women in science and highlighted some interesting stats from Women in to Science and Engineering: 13% of all scientists in UK and 17% of professors in science are female. At CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) under 20% of workers are women, but the new Director General Fabiola Gianotti is a woman.
Participants also learnt about 7 sensational female boffins before stitching some creative tributes as well as crafting bright tassels with AT Boyle.
